Lexus has been thinking about a seven seats crossover SUV for more than 10 years now but they never really released such a car mostly because they thought it just wouldn’t make sense. However, after they saw how successful cars such as the Q7 or even the Highlander were, they finally decided to release such a car. The 2016 Lexus TX is likely going to be based on the same platform as the Highlander but just like with the other Lexus models, it is going to feature a different running gear, a new transmission option as well as most likely a set of new engines.
2016 Lexus TX specs
As far as the engines go, the 2016 Lexus TX could go on two possible routes. It will either get the same engines as the current generation of the Highlander, so a 2.4-liter inline 4 and two V6 units, one of which is a hybrid. The other more sensible route would mean that the new TX is going to get the new Toyota engines developed together with BMW. The base engine might be a new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4 with around 270 horsepower and more than 290 lb-ft of torque which offers similar fuel consumption to the older V6 hybrid. The other choice for upcoming Lexus TX 2016 would be a 2.0-liter turbo coupled to an electric motor for around 330 horsepower, offering more than 35 MPG on average while offering better performance than the older V6 offering.
2016 Lexus TX redesign
On the interior the 2016 Lexus TX will be mostly identical to the new generation of the RX but it will offer an extra row of seats. The dashboard and most of the options are expected to be the same but it will also offer specific equipment only available on it such as the massive panoramic roof or even an intercom system which will allow the driver to communicate with the last row of seats.
The exterior of the model on the other hand is likely to be a mix between the RX and the Highlander. We expect a similar size to the Toyota model but most of the details and the design elements are likely going to be taken out of the current generation of the Lexus models in order to keep the car in line with the other Lexus offerings.
Lexus TX 2016 release date and price
While there isn’t much information on this car just yet it seems that the upcoming 2016 Lexus TX is going to be slotted just above the RX. This would mean that the base price should be around US $40,000 with the higher end models going for up to US $50,000 which is a lot of money but it is still a lot cheaper than the competition. The release date of this crossover SUV has been announced to be at the end of 2015 with the showroom availability starting in the first half of 2016.
